Practise home row keys only. Type each row in isolation. Use the KuchhBhi Typing Test for timed sessions. Target: 15 WPM with 90% accuracy by Day 7.
Introduce top row (QWERTY) and bottom row. Practise 3 sessions/day × 10 minutes. Target: 20 WPM, 92% accuracy.
Switch to full passage typing. Use the timed test with real exam-style passages. Focus on not looking at keyboard. Target: 25 WPM, 95% accuracy.
Take 3 full 10-minute timed tests daily. Treat each session as the real exam. Check your error rate. By Day 30 you should comfortably exceed 30 WPM.
❌ Looking at keyboard while typing
Practice touch typing — use home row (ASDF / JKL;) as anchors. Eyes on screen only.
❌ Correcting errors immediately with Backspace
In the actual exam, corrections cost double time. Practice ignoring small errors and moving on.
❌ Typing too fast and making errors
Speed follows accuracy. First hit 95%+ accuracy at 20 WPM. Speed comes automatically after 2–3 weeks.
❌ Only practising in English
If your exam is in Hindi (Mangal font, Inscript keyboard), practise in Hindi specifically. Both keyboards are completely different.
❌ Practising for only 10–15 min per day
Minimum 30 min/day split into 3 sessions of 10 min each is more effective than one 30-min block.
❌ Not timing yourself
Always practise with a timer. The exam is time-boxed. Stress degrades typing speed by 10–15% — simulate exam pressure.
For Railway NTPC (Junior Clerk cum Typist and Accounts Clerk cum Typist posts), the minimum typing speed is 30 WPM (words per minute) in English or 25 WPM in Hindi. The test duration is 10 minutes. Errors are penalised.
SSC CGL typing test requires 35 WPM in English (minimum 10,500 key depressions per hour) or 30 WPM in Hindi. The test is 15 minutes long for Tax Assistant posts and 10 minutes for DEO posts.
KuchhBhi's free Sarkari Typing Test (app.kuchhbhi.in/tools/typing-test) simulates the actual Railway NTPC typing test format with a passage, timer, and real-time WPM/accuracy tracker. No login or installation needed — works on mobile and desktop.
Railway NTPC Hindi typing tests use Kruti Dev (Remington keyboard layout) in older exams, but newer RRB exams have shifted to Mangal font with Inscript keyboard layout. Check your specific recruitment notification for the exact requirement.
If you start from scratch, most dedicated learners reach 30 WPM in English within 4–6 weeks of daily 30-minute practice. For Hindi Inscript typing, expect 6–8 weeks. For Kruti Dev (Remington layout), 8–10 weeks as it has a non-standard layout.
Real exam-format timed typing test. No login, no download, works on mobile.
